NetBeans 10 Improves JDK 11 Support But Drops C/C++ Update: Not Really

NetBeans 13 is available for download now. PHP is the other main area to have been enhanced with new support for PHP 8.1, and integration of the PHPStan static analyzer. Gradle support is another area to have been improved, mainly to fix earlier problems when loading Gradle projects in template operations, and to add some support for java-platfom Gradle projects. NetBeans will then use mvnd and also be able to query the maven version from the bundled maven home. There's also added minimal support for Maven daemen, so that users can set a mvnd home as a maven home.
This version has moved to the fixed Maven 3.8.4. In the support for different languages and environments, NetBeans 13 has upgraded its support for Maven, partially to overcome problems with the version supported until now.
Nb-javac is now bundled, making the process simpler.

NetBeans still needed a patched Java compiler, but since the split there was a need to install nb-javac in order to use Java in NetBeans. The Java compiler belongs to the JDK which is licensed to Oracle. This is necessary due to Oracle not making the OpenJDK javac compiler part of Oracle's donation of NetBeans to Apache. Version 13 has a new default 'light flat' look to the IDE, along with upgraded support for Maven, Gradle and PHP. Now I just want to recommend anyone who is looking for a decent free IDE for PHP to give NetBeans a try. I guess I’d better draw a comprehensive feature comparison with Eclipse PDT, but I will do that next time.

It seems to be working much faster than Eclipse, both in terms of the loading time and in terms of code editing and code completion as well. Generally, I feel pretty good about NetBeans. You can connect to MySQL server and create a table for example. Then, NetBeans enables you to interact with databases straight from the IDE. So, NetBeans has a nice code completion feature for JavaScript as well, that will understand your and 3rd party libraries, jQuery, for instance. Furthemore, it works greatly with JavaScript that was a quite a surprise for me after a while working of with Eclipse. Ok, what do I mean by the term of “support”? I mean a standard set of features that every IDE must provide: Moreover it not only supports plain PHP, but it offers quite good support of HTML and JavaScript. At the same time recently NetBeans started supporting other languages, like C/C++, Ruby and finally PHP. NetBeans is mostly known for Java developers as a good and free IDE. I’m quite aware about Eclipse and PHP Development Tools for Eclipse, but I still was wondering if there is some other free tool for PHP.
